Look at what we have running for Governor. They need to fix this political system from the bottom up. Let’s start with the police department.

Don’t get me wrong I respect good cops. I just can’t begin to tell how sick I get of conversations at parties with cops who think they are entitled to speed or break the law just because they’re cops. I see it totally different.

If their job is to uphold the law then they should be punished two-fold if they break it. It is this mentality that left two sisters dead in South Jersey and a state trooper running free. It is also this mentality that had Corzine bleeding on the road side and a medic-copter needing to come to the rescue. Sure he ticketed himself for that one single event.

How about the many times he got away with it? Like with anything else, if these guys want respect it must be earned.

Skyler Berney has donated pet food and supplies to the Michigan Humane Society and Michigan Animal Rescue League. She asked for pet food and toys and other items in lieu of gifts for her sixth birthday. When asked what she wanted for her sixth birthday, Skyler Berney’s answer wasn’t the latest Barbie or a trip to Disney World.

Instead, the Waterford Township girl asked her friends and family to bring pet food and supplies to her dogthemed birthday party. “I want dog food, cat food or any kind of toy for animals that I can give to the Humane Society so no animal is hungry,” her aunt, Angie Smith, said was her reply. “I was floored when she said no toys,” Smith said. Being a young animal lover, it was all her idea, said Skyler’s mom Mandy Berney. “She’s always worrying about dogs, where they’re going to go when it’s cold, who’s going to take care of them and feed them,” she said.

“I just made up a little flier, got on a couple (animal rescue) Web sites to see what their wish lists were, what they needed, and put that in the invitation,” Berney said. She received dog food, dog treats, cat food, cat litter, brushes, shampoo, leashes, collars, toys and even a cage. So many items were donated that they decided to split them up, taking half to the Humane Society in Rochester Hills and half to the Michigan Animal Rescue League in Pontiac. “I felt good when I did it,” Skyler said after dropping off the supplies Friday. “Because I like animals a lot and I want to take care of them.” “It just, it touched me,” Smith said.

“We really could all learn from her. That was such an unselfish act at such a young age, it just floored me.” Berney said she thinks her daughter’s good deeds toward animals has only just begun with her sixth birthday.

“I think we’re definitely going to do it again,” she said. Michigan Humane Society’s public relations coordinator Jennifer Robertson said they really appreciate children donating supplies in lieu of receiving birthday gifts. “It’s such a wonderful way to help animals in need. They’re really changing the lives of the animals,” Robertson said.

On the 40th anniversary of man’s first moon landing, the Apollo 11 crew met with President Barack Obama, who used the opportunity to talk about inspiration and science and math education. He didn’t talk about going anywhere in space, not the moon or Mars. Obama said he wanted to use Monday’s anniversary of the Apollo moon landing to show that “math and science are cool again.

” That’s not what the men who went to the moon had in mind. Earlier in the day, seven Apollo astronauts, including Apollo 11’s Buzz Aldrin, used a news conference to talk about their desire to go to Mars and not linger on the moon as long as NASA plans. “All of us here are pretty much convinced that Mars is a goal to shoot for,” said Tom Stafford, commander of Apollo 10, which orbited the moon and tested the lunar module. On a day when everyone lauded NASA for landing on the moon and dreaming big, the space agency’s overall plan for future exploration remained in a holding pattern. Again.

The women in his family are avid viewers, and he’s a fan of several of its most popular reruns. This fall, however, Willis will be on the other side of the screen as an extra on the new hit show “Drop Dead Diva.” The comedic drama tells the story of a superficial model whose soul enters the body of a plus-sized attorney after a deadly car accident. The show, which premiered last Sunday, has received rave reviews. “I auditioned for the show back in March, and I hadn’t heard anything,” Willis said.

“When I got a call from casting, I felt relieved because I wasn’t sure if I had gotten it.” Willis, who has no formal acting training, has been cast as a hairdresser in an episode scheduled to run in early September. He has also been hired as the stand-in for the lead male role. “It’s not a speaking part, but I am part of the background action,” Willis said.

The Muscle Shoals native, who broke into the entertainment industry in January, hopes this is just the beginning. His road to fame began when a fellow church member noticed his photographs and recommended he contact a local modeling agency. He scheduled an interview with Ureka Talent Agency in Florence and took several test shots. “They signed me on the spot,” Willis said.

The 21-year-old college student has modeled for local designer Billy Reid and has also worked with several photographers in Tupelo, Miss., and Birmingham. “I never pictured myself making a living through the entertainment industry,” he said. Willis said Ureka saw his potential and told him about the “Drop Dead Diva” open casting call in Atlanta. The aspiring actor admitted he used to be nervous about the auditioning process, but he said the agency gave him the tools to become more comfortable in his own skin.

Joyce Liles, who is also represented by a local modeling agency, was also cast in the Lifetime show. The 41-year-old mother of four filmed scenes for two separate episodes. “Being on set was a really great experience,” she said. Liles said one of the highlights of filming was being on location with guest star Paula Abdul.

“I didn’t get the opportunity to speak with her, but she’s an icon,” she said. “It was exciting just to be on set with her.” Rosie O’Donnell, Liza Minnelli and Delta Burke are also scheduled to make guest appearances this fall. Though it hasn’t been confirmed, both Willis and Liles hope to return as extras.
